Research Gone Awry - March 4, 2016

- Banana Slicer hilarity!

- FST spend a few days recuperating, researching, Mending, and such with Gerard

Sharai learns from Gerard and / or his library:
- Lionshead Island is home to 3 adult dragons
      - Dagarth, a fiery, red dragon who is the youngest of the three, lives near the volcano. He collects fairly traditional treasures. His breath weapon is fire.
      - Gerard is a green dragon who collects books. He "breaths" poison.
      - Eris is a blue dragon who is possibly the most magical and powerful being Gerard knows. He says she is "great & terrible" and believes her influence to stretch far beyond the island. Gerard believes that she was old when he was young. She collects power and spits lightning.
- On dragons in general:
      - Dragons lay hundreds of eggs at a time, but when they hatch they fight and cannibalize each other until only a few (or possibly only one) survive
      - Dragons can shape change to look like a human (obviously as that's how the girls met Gerard)
      - Dragons have a breath weapon, the element of which is based on their scale color.
- About Lellzutho:
      - He is a demigod from the Elemental Chaos
      - He was summoned here by a power-greedy sorcerer
      - The sorcerer became possessed by him and then became an engine of destruction
      - Lellzutho destroyed an entire country and killed many millions or people.
      - He was eventually defeated through a combination of deception, luck, and powerful magics.
      - He "flew into bits", so these artifacts are probably bits of him.
- Sharai also learned the spell Thunderwave from one of Gerard's many tomes on magic.

- There is more discussion about what to do about the Lellzutho bits.
- S tells T to ask Gerard if he will ask for a meeting with Eris to see if she can help destroy them
- Gerard arranges the meeting with Eris at a neutral location
- At the meeting, Eris arrive as a blue dragon who transforms into a cloud of lightning while still flying and then the lightning condenses into the form of a very tall woman with solid black eyes (no pupil, iris, or sclera)
- She is very interested to see that so many of the Lellzutho artifacts are surfacing. She's known the location of the Heart for a long time, and she believes it is time to take it for herself.
- She does not believe that she can destroy the artifacts, and she's not sure she would want to either, but if they can discover what the essence of the artifact is, then the opposite of that essence might destroy it.
- They experiment with the Hand by having Thessalie cast Mending on it to see if healing / creation magic would destroy a piece of a demigod of chaos / destruction. It does not work and T has the magical equivalent of having the breath knocked out of her.
- The meeting ends and Eris goes off to claim the Heart for herself.
- Gerard takes the girls back to his well-appointed caves, where some food helps T to revive her spirits a bit.
- More discussion about what to do with no real conclusion.

In the Library of the Book Wyrm - February 26, 2016

- Oreo churros for Katie's 30th!

- Thessalie wakes up warm and comfy in a soft bed - She enjoys this for a brief moment before realizing that she went to sleep on the cold, rocky ground, so this is probably bad.
- She sits up slowly and looks around for her elven companions.
- Felosyal and Sharai are also asleep in beds over there similar to T's. They are probably also warm and comfy.
- This is doubly disconcerting since elves don't actually sleep.
- T dashes over and to S who is closer "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" (But gently, she is a healer after all.) A very groggy S mutters something about only using a bed for fucking.
- F also wakes up and attempts to draw a couple of daggers, but she doesn't have any. No one is wearing armor either. All the girls are pretty much in their underthings.
- All their stuff is just in a pile over there, though. FST gather their things and get dressed.
- They've started discussing where they might be when the door opens and a very tall, broad-shouldered man with a long, red beard (with the pale complexion to match) enters the nicely decorated room.
- He found them passed out in the rocky plains where the volcano off-gases.
- S can sense that he positively drips with magic.
- Lionshead Island may have some patchy connections to the Elemental Chaos, especially near the volcano, Gerard informs them when they ask about the rock monsters.
- S & T are being awfully chatty and silly. They start pondering back and forth if Gerard is to be trusted and what all that magic might mean.
- S: "Maybe he is Lellzutho." G: "I'm standing right here!"
- F asks him about the artifact they came to find.
- Gerard says that if there is anything that seems like a precious gem, the dragon Daganth has probably found it and added it to his collection.
- T asks how he knows Daganth's name.
- "We've met."
- T asks Gerard if he's a dragon.
- He answers vaguely and evasively without actually answering the question.
- T decides he is definitely a dragon in human form and ask if he's really Daganth. He is not Daganth. She is nearly exploding with excitement to tell her brother Eldon that she's been to a volcano and talked to a dragon. Gerard winks at her. Then she remembers that Eldon took a treasure map to the Emberwood in Rhoanor and probably needs rescuing and gets sad.
- S asks Gerard if he could tell the other dragon to put special spells and traps and things on the Heart (assuming that he has it). If not, they will give it to him, since they don't want it to have, they only want it to keep Talathon from having it.
- Gerard invites S to use his library if she'll be extremely careful with some of the older manuscripts (down the hall and on the left) and T can make a cake (down the hall on the right) as she likes, but he has an errand to run as it's getting on towards the middle of the afternoon and excuses himself.
- T chatters a bit more while making the beds, and she sees a green dragon fly past the glazed windows (this cave is very swanky). She gets super excited again, and extra wants to make him a cake so that she can tell Eldon she had cake with a dragon.
- FST go to explore the library and kitchen.
- The library is huge. Hugely massive. The biggest room any of them have ever seen. The library that the Beast gives Belle could fit into it at least four times, maybe more. It's five or six stories tall with mezzanines and spiral staircases and sliding ladders. It's very irregularly shaped with lots of nooks and crannies, though the central area is as big as two royal ballrooms combined (not that FS or T have ever been in a royal ballroom, but they can imagine.)
- T is boggled. She was going to see if he had a book on healing lore which she didn't already know, but she immediately wonder how she would ever find such a thing.
- S examines a few of the nearer shelves to get an idea of the organizational scheme and after a bit decides to start looks through that shelf over there to see if there is any information about the Keepers of Lellzutho.
- S finds a book that looks pretty promising information-wise, but is afraid to touch it because it looks like it's going to fall apart.
- S calls over T from where she was looking at the spines of some books over there to see if she can Mend it.
- T comes over from her unfruitful search, and Mends the book. Her powers have improved enough the the book looks as good as new. Considering the size of this library, she decided Gerard must really love books, so if she can repair some of his books that would be better for him than a cake to thank him for saving them. She goes on a Mending spree on all the books she can easily reach (the bottom three shelves.)
- S starts to say that maybe T shouldn't mess with someone else's stuff, but there is no stopping the tiny power house when she gets an idea like this one. She gives up and goes over to a convenient table to read about Lellzutho.
- Neither S nor T notice F leave the library after a very short time to investigate the kitchen. She finds a banquet table covered with a selection of meats, vegetables, cheeses, and fruits. She has a nice meal and then sets to repairing and cleaning her equipment with the odd snack here and there. While getting another apple, she realizes that it looks exactly like the first apple she had a few hours ago and is in exactly the same location in the bowl from which she took the first one. On a closer examination it doesn't look like anyone has taken any food off the table at all though she has been enjoying eating not-travel-rations. She concludes the table must be enchanted to never run out of food, though she doesn't catch it regrowing anything.
- S discovers that Lellzutho was a minor god of destruction and chaos and the Keepers were a group who defeated him and are (supposedly) trying to keep him from returning to reek havock on the world (again).
- Near the end of the afternoon a few hours later, Gerard comes back to find S pouring over a stack of books nearish the door. He asks her if she's found what she was looking for, and she starts to explain to him what's she found, and about how she thinks she and her companions have made an error in their judgement about Talathon belonging to the Keepers of Lellzutho, and now she believes he is stealing from the Keepers, when T runs up.
- T skids to a stop in front of Gerard and says "Gerard! Gerard! Gerard" This started before the skidding to a stop, "I the-opposite-of-damaged your books!" She puts both of her tiny little fists under her chin to frame the ear to ear grin.
- Gerard and S follow the dashing T back to where she has been Mending the oldest books she could find for several hours.
- Gerard's face goes very blank for a moment, giving Sharai a bit of a quiver before he says "This is glorious! Can you do more?"
- He shows T to his bookshelf of extremely worn favorites and she gets to work Mending those.
- G then tells S that he spoke to Daganth who refused to admit if he owned or even knew about the Heart, but from his knowledge of the dragon and his behaviors, he suspects that Daganth does indeed possess the Heart.
- S is worried that even if they warn Daganth Talathon will somehow be able to steal the Heart from him, and that it and all the other artifacts should probably be destroyed to prevent them from bring even more death and destruction than they once did.
- F asks Gerard if he's really a dragon where his treasure is.
- Gerard says that dragons don't necessarily hold treasure per se. They tend to collect things which they believe possess value.
- T: "You're a book wyrm! You collect books! That's way better than gold!"
- F twists her mouth into a disagreeing shape, but doesn't say anything.
