Battle on the Lake
- Thessalie casts Guiding Bolt on the HUGE CrociGator for 18 radiant dmg and then runs backwards her speed
- Felosyal shoots the CG with her longbow for 25 piercing dmg and then runs backwards her speed
- CG moves to Sharai and bites her for 24 piercing dmg and grapples her and starts to pull her under water
- (from 5' under water) Sharai attempts to escape the CG's mouth, but does not succeed, then she tries to stab it with her dagger (no spells without a Verbal component), but misses. This is not going well for Sharai.
- Some insects rise from the bushes next to Thessalie and Felosyal, the first Swarm envelopes Thessalie, but can't seem to get at her.
- S2 envelopes F and bites her for 10 piercing dmg.
- T casts Spirit Guardians and then runs back towards the CG so that she is within 15' of it. (No opportunity attack from the swarms by Ruling of the DM.)
- F hustles over to the CG and double stabs it with her daggers for a total of 29 piercing dmg.
- The Spirit Guardians cause the CG to retreat with 20 radiant dmg.
- S1 takes 22 radiant SG dmg then swarms T for no dmg.
- S2 moves next to F
- T dashes across the lake (10 sq).
- F laps T
- The insect swarms are too slow to catch the girls, so end of encounter.
- FST continue north away from the lake
- The day remains overcast, but the girls have to make their way through thicker forest, which is somewhat slow going. T keeps up the Water Walk ritual, so that they can make their way without sinking into the mud from all the rain.
- The girls make camp and S casts her Leomund's Tiny Hut in a small clearing.
- During the night, S notices two orbs of light approach the edge of the spell's dome and she recognizes them as undead spirits that try to lure people into the dark.
- As she watches them, she starts hearing the lights whisper things like "Come play. . ." wistfully.
- S watches them for a while and messes with them by throwing pebbles through the dome, then she nudges F out of her trance to enjoy the fun.
- F starts throwing her dagger at them trying to get it to come as close to hitting them as she can without actually hitting them as an aim exercise.
- The things flit around all night, and then fade away with the dawn.
- A low fog rolls in that is waist high on the elves, and completely envelopes the halfling so that she has trouble seeing more than a few feet
- The marching order for the day is decided that F will lead with T directly behind her and S bring up the rear so that the halfling doesn't get lost.
- Eventually F notices that the fog is starting to change from a white-ish color to a yellowish color.
- T starts coughing and realizes that the fog smells thick and sulfurous.
- S casts Leomund's Tiny Hut so that the halfling doesn't suffocate. T experiments with a wet handkerchief to see if that will help her breath, and it does help some, but it will not be a comfortable day for her traveling with a constantly wet handkerchief over her face.
- S doesn't detect anything magicky about the fog, and F thinks this could very well be a naturally occurring phenomenon.
- S dismisses the Hut with Z-snap.
- For a second when the fog rushes in and envelopes even the taller of the two elves, and then settles back down to just taller than T
- S climbs a tree to get a look around and sees that the ocean is just over there and suggests the group head over there where traveling might be slightly easier
- The fog does not extend onto the beach. It is contained by the thick wall of forest trees.
- S kicks off her shoes and enjoys the sand squelching between her toes.
- T rips the handkerchief off her face and takes several deep breaths.
- F checks the beach and sees nothing more dangerous than some small crabs.
- The girls walk north along the beach. At dusk FST notice a light in the distance. S squints and says it looks like a village.
- The girls approach carefully, and find a small collection of wooden structures.
- S knocks on the door of the largest brightest looking house. They hear talking inside, but when they knock the voices go silent.
- An old man answers the door a crack and peeks out at them. He is very suspicious of them
- S asks where is the inn, old man asks what that is, S explains paying for dinner and a place to sleep
Woman's voice says "let them in Grandpa" and he opens the door so that we can see the woman, FST ask for a place to sleep, they agree
- T asks for stuff to mend. They have nothing that needs mending.
- The old man asks us what we are doing.
- S says "We were shipwrecked and have been traveling up the island" and T jumps in and says we met the fish people they were strange.
- S says there was a strange fog in the forest and we met some evil sprites
- The old man said there are evil things in the forest.
- S asked if this island had a dragon. The old man said no that sounds scary.
- T tries to talk to the littlest child (girl), and she goes and hides behind her dad's leg.
- T goes and sits in the corner and performs a Sending to her brother Eldon at S's insistence. "Where are you? Border to Rhoanor closed. Monsters, creatures, and people from there acting strangely. Do you need help? Coming to rescue your butt!"
- She receives back in a flat and monotone version of her brother's voice, "Don't try to find me. I'm done with you. There's nothing you can do."
- T declares that her brother is definitely in trouble, and they definitely have to rescue his butt.
- The old man asks how she knows that, and she says she just cast a spell sending him a message. He accuses her of being a witch. The woman is exasperated again.
- Habbakuk versus Mishakal.
- T suddenly realizes that with 3 children there might be some broken toys around. She mends the damaged doll of the little girl who immediately starts chewing on it again.
- S gives the little girl some jerky and tell her to chew on that instead. The little girl sticks it up her nose.
- One of the boys has T Mend his knife. She also makes him a sheath out of an old piece of clothing.
- Everyone settles down to sleep for the night.
- S is startled out of her trance by a woman running through the small village yelling, "My baby!"
- Everyone in the village runs out to see what's going on, and they
- S gets there first and starts trying to calm her down and figure out what happened.
- The woman says she woke up because she heard something and she saw a long-haired silhouette taking her 4-day old baby.
- She grabs T who is standing next to her where she is on her knees in the "street" and demands. "Promise me you'll find my baby!"
- 1,800 XP ea. for 25,410 XP total ea.

Back to Fishy Normal - May 20, 2016
- Swim lessons?
- Symbiotic worm relationships and allergies
- The girls and the two Fish People come out of the cave dungeon thing, and it's hard to tell what time it is because it's so overcast. Not long after everyone arrives at the surface, it starts to rain.
- The girls decide to go back to the village with the FP, Gorbbel and Jerock so they can rest, and so the guilt-ridden Thessalie can try to make amends with the villagers.
- T chats with Gorbbel and Jerock as they well, keeping up the Tongues spells so they can understand each other. T tried to translate for Sharai the questions she has about being under a Mind Flare's control. There is some confusion on both sides.
- They get back to the village, and the FP go to their homes, while FST camp under a tree in Sharai's Leomund's Tiny Hut spell.
- Felosyal is jarred out of her Trance by a strange tapping noise. There are five FP just outside the spell and on is poking the spell's dome with a stick. F watches in amusement for a few minutes and then elbows S.
- S pokes her head out of the side of the dome near them and shoos them away with her arms.
- T finally wakes up and starts packing her stuff and re-braiding her fluffy, curly hair, and as she is rolling up her bed roll, the dome starts to flicker and fade, and she hurriedly finishes rolling it up and packing before the swamp starts sweeping back into the area.
- T casts Tongues again, and tries to talk to a FP who doesn't look too busy to apologize about the whole situation, and upsets him since his brother was one of the ones who was killed. F cuts her off and FST decide they will just fill in the pit that was dug in the path that leads to the cave for the FP and then will build a raft to get to the mainland.
- FST spend all day filling in the pit, and manage to get it mostly filled in, at least where the path is, and then head back to the village. They are very dirty and sweaty.
- There is a mini quest to find something that will hold water for bathing. They talk to a random person and he tells them that Turbml whose hut at the end of that row has a big pot. T asks him if they can borrow his pot, and it is an enormous cast iron cauldron that he says he uses to make batches of healing potions / poultices / etc. He says the girls can use it, but all three together they just barely manage to knock it over, but they can't get it any farther than that.
- T asks Turbml if he knows anyone who has a bucket, but then she has to try to explain what a bucket is, because the fish people just go swimming and that's how they keep clean. It's much too cold for the girls to do this, so they go on his advice to ask Florgl.
- T asks Florgl if he has a bucket, which is a thing to carry water or maybe fish, and he shows them a sledge that is sort of a U-shaped trough, but has no ends, so it can't hold water. T starts to break down a little because she's so tired and dirty and wants a bath. She burst out that she just wants something that will hold a gallon or two of water. He shows them a rain barrel that is about 3' tall and about 2' across that is half full of murky water. T is very excited. They dump out the other water and roll the barrel to their camp location.
- The girls set up their camp and have their sponge baths, and return the barrel, which T fills with clean water using her Create Food and Water ritual. They sleep.
- T casts Tongues yet again, and asks Florgl how far to the northern most part of the island. It's probably a two or three day trip, and there may be a settlement of humans up there. Right before they leave, T finally thinks to ask what the Fish People call themselves. It's Kuo-Toa.
- The girls start heading north. Eventually they leave the area with the Kuo-Toa live and there are no more paths. T casts Water Walk, and they continue.
- Eventually the girls come to a lake that's several hundred feet across. T refreshes the Water Walk spell to guarantee they can make it across, and the girls start speed walking to the other shore.
- F who doesn't have to work as hard to keep up with the group, notices a strange movement in the water to the northeast of the girls mostly northern path. She turns and watches as a truly enormous crocodilian snout and head surface and starts making a beeline for the party.
- FST start running as quickly as Thessalie can go, but the croco-gator is gaining quickly. . .

Tentacles Here and Tentacles There - May 7, 2016

- Stories about pets getting their claws stuck in various things
- The stairs curve around to the west and with Felosyal leading, Thessalie in the middle, and Sharai bring up the rear the girls enter a small room with a door to the west and the south. The smell of dankness and decay has amplified significantly and the wall look like they are crumbling slowly and have patches in places.
- T casts Prayer of Healing into S's Ring of Spell Storage.
- T wiggles the handle of the southern door. It's stuck.
- FST try the door on the western wall instead. It creaks open.
- There is another long narrow room with the long part of the room extending south. S sticks her head through the door, and sees a pit that starts about 10' from the door and that there are four vacant-eyed fish people on the other side of the pit on another landing of sorts.
- FST enter the room, and look into the pit. About 20' down there is a sort of a haze so that you can't see the bottom of the pit. T drops a stone into the pit, but F is the only one that hears it hits bottom and she senses that there is something weird about the surface of the haze, but she's not sure what.
- It's about this time that the fish people notice the girls and start throwing things at them.
In Which the Party Fights Yet More Fishy-People
- T casts Sacred Flame on FP1 for 7 radiant dmg, then casts Spiritual Weapon next to it for 10 force dmg, then she backs up so that her back is to the wall.
- F shoots FP1 with her longbow for 6 piercing dmg.
- S casts Fireball on the whole group of FP for 33 fire dmg to FP1, FP3, and FP4, but FP2 dodges the worst of it for only 16 dmg. (FP1 is not dead yet. . .)
- FP3 throws a small-ish spear at F for 4 piercing and 3 lightning dmg then he misses with her on his second attempt
- FP4 does the same to F for 5 piercing and 2 lightning then he hits again for 3 piercing and 5 lightning
- FP2 hits S for 8 piercing and 6 lightning and then again for 3 piercing and 2 lightning.
- FP1 hits S for 4 piercing and 2 lightning and then again for 5 piercing and 6 lightning.
- T hits FP1 for 9 force dmg with SW, then casts Cure Wounds on S for 12 HP.
- F misses FP1 with her longbow
- S casts Fireball again for 24 fire dmg to FP1, FP2, FP3, and FP4 dodges this time and takes only 12 fire dmg.
- FP3 steps around the body of its companion, then misses S on his first throw, then hits her for 4 piercing and 2 lightning dmg.

- FP4 misses T then misses her again!

- The last Fishy-Person's body falls into the pit, and hits something the girls can't see then when it falls into the mist it starts floating just below the surface of the haze.
- While looking around T hits her shoulder on something invisible. "Ow!" S says "What?" "I hit something. I think it's invisible." "Throw some sand on it." There is an Indiana Jones style invisible path over the pit.
- T tells S "You go first and poke it with your stick."
- S walks across what looks like nothing and makes it to the other side. T & F follow suit. It feels like a rope bridge that has been turned invisible.
- There is a long narrow room through the open arch to the south. There is a row of sarcophagi down the center of the room and the are niches with skeletons in the wall. There is a doorway near where the girls are standing in the western wall and there is a door on the far (south) side of the room as well.
- Before entering the Mausoleum room, the girls take a 10 minutes breather for T to cast Prayer of Healing as a Ritual. They all get 18HP from that. S and F also spend some Hit Die.
- S looks closely at the floor and walls before the girls enter the room, but she doesn't see anything that resembles a trap.
- S also reaches out with her magicky senses, and when she brushes up against something it pushes back this time, and tries to burrow into her brain. She takes 2 psychic dmg.
- S sits down hard and curls into a ball reflexively while she pushes the presence back out of her head.
- T whimpers and asks S what happened. S explains.
- The girls cross the room to examine the southern door. It is 10' high and made of two 5' leaves, so that it is also 10' wide. There are geometric shapes carved into it. The very last sarcophagus is open, and it looks like there is a bed inside of it. F rifles through the blankets and finds 30GP.
(Crackberry fiasco at this point.)
- S closely examines the doors for traps and magic and find neither. She attempts to open the door, and while it is heavy so manages to pull them open.
- There is a large chamber with two large braziers on either side of the room. There is a dais on the far side of the room with a lectern containing a few books with a large, almost throne-like chair behind it. The chair is flanked by two vacant-eyed Fishy-People, and there is a humanoid creature standing at the lectern. It is about 6'-4" tall; has thick gray skin; a bald, human-like head, but where his mouth would be there are four tentacle like things extending like a beard; is wearing a long black robes; it's left arm ends in a normal looking hand, but the right arm ends in a tentacle with four suckers on the end.
- The Tall Creature says, "Good. Bring me the artifact."
- S: "No." T whimpers again.
- The Tall Creature points its hand at the girls, and the Fishy-People begin to advance.
BOSS BATTLE
- F moves to FP2, then she stabs it with her magicky dagger for 6 piercing dmg then again with her normal dagger for 1 piercing dmg
- FP1 misses S with a spell
- FP2 stabs F with his short spear for 4 piercing dmg, grappling her, and then misses biting her.
- T runs into the middle of everything and calls down her Spirit Guardians, then she casts Spirit Weapon next to FP2 and hits him for 8 force dmg.
- TC takes 4 radiant SG dmg, then moves to T, then he wraps his tentacle arm around her neck then rips it off for 18 bludgeoning dmg.
- S casts Fireball for 33 fire dmg on all the enemies. The book and the cushion on the chair also catch fire.
- F moves to flank TC, Disengaging from FP1, then engages the poison on her dagger and stabs him for 14 piercing dmg, but it resists the poison.
- FP1 takes 5 radiant SG dmg, then moves to S, misses stabbing her with his short spear, but then bites her for 5 piercing dmg.
- FP2 takes 10 radiant SG dmg, then moves to flank T, stabs her with its short spear for 3 piercing dmg, then misses biting her.
- T casts Guiding Bolt on TC for 11 radiant dmg, then uses her SW to attack him for 10 force dmg.
- TC takes 8 radiant SG dmg, then chokes her for 19 bludgeoning dmg, then misses her when he tries it again.
- S casts Fireball dealing 22 fire dmg to the two FP and 11 to TC.
- F stabs TC with her magicky dagger for 22 piercing dmg killing him!
- TC's tentacle falls limp from around T's neck and it falls over. The FP shakes their heads and come out of a trance.
- T immediately turns to the one next to her, and says "Are you okay?! Are you okay?! Are you okay?!" He burbles in Fishy-Person language at her. She casts Tongues and asks again.
- He asks her general person coming out of a trance questions "Where are we? What happened?" He sounds a lot smarter than any of the other Fish-People any of them have talked to yet.
- Sharai examines the tentacle, which is clearly the "Arm", and she gets a compulsion (magicky compulsion) to put her hand in the cupped opening at the base of the Arm. She succeeds on her Saving Throw (Wisdom) and does not put her hand in the thing. They take the Arm and empty Thessalie's pack and stick the curled up Arm in the bottom and then pack things around it and on top of it, so she isn't likely to touch it by accident.
- T apologizes again and again for killing so many Fish-People as they lead him to the stairs, then he leads them through the one room on the ground floor they didn't enter before (N door in the mushroom farm room) the store room.
- While they are crossing through the room, F spots a bag with something shiny poking out of it. She peeks into it and sees various-sized, un-minted golden rocks. She pockets the bag for later.
- The Fish-Person opens a door in the storage room than opens what is (from the other side) a secret door in the antechamber of the dungeon.

- TC's tentacle falls limp from around T's neck and it falls over. The FP shakes their heads and come out of a trance.
- T immediately turns to the one next to her, and says "Are you okay?! Are you okay?! Are you okay?!" He burbles in Fishy-Person language at her. She casts Tongues and asks again.
- He asks her general person coming out of a trance questions "Where are we? What happened?" He sounds a lot smarter than any of the other Fish-People any of them have talked to yet.
- Sharai examines the tentacle, which is clearly the "Arm", and she gets a compulsion (magicky compulsion) to put her hand in the cupped opening at the base of the Arm. She succeeds on her Saving Throw (Wisdom) and does not put her hand in the thing. They take the Arm and empty Thessalie's pack and stick the curled up Arm in the bottom and then pack things around it and on top of it, so she isn't likely to touch it by accident.
- T apologizes again and again for killing so many Fish-People as they lead him to the stairs, then he leads them through the one room on the ground floor they didn't enter before (N door in the mushroom farm room) the store room.
- While they are crossing through the room, F spots a bag with something shiny poking out of it. She peeks into it and sees various-sized, un-minted golden rocks. She pockets the bag for later.
- The Fish-Person opens a door in the storage room than opens what is (from the other side) a secret door in the antechamber of the dungeon.
